From freelancer to lead AI engineer in twenty months
The path from a freelance role to Lead AI Engineer at Eject Solutions between March 2024 and November 2025, the results behind each step, and three lessons from it.

In March 2024 I joined Eject Solutions as a freelance AI and data engineer. In November 2025 I became its Lead AI Engineer. That is twenty months, from the first day as a freelancer to leading the function. This is the path, told through the work.
The career timeline
- Marketing Analytics Analyst, INT360 Design StudioAutomation, dashboards, A/B testing and cohort analysis: a year of turning data into weekly decisions.
- Freelance AI & Data Engineer, Eject SolutionsJoined Eject as a freelancer on AI and data engineering.
- Business Analyst & AI EngineerA dual role: understanding the business problem, and building the system that solves it.
- Lead AI EngineerLeading AI engineering, with an agentic architecture now used as the company's production blueprint.
The results behind each promotion
Titles follow results. These are the ones I'm proudest of from this period:
Alongside them: LLM-powered automation pipelines that took over repetitive manual workflows, and Power BI dashboards that gave leadership a live view of the business.
Three lessons for AI engineers
1. Report in the numbers leadership already tracks. A model's F1 score rarely reaches a board meeting. Revenue, cost and hours do. The work that got noticed was work I could describe in those units.
2. The analyst role accelerates engineering. As business analyst and engineer at once, I could sit with C-suite leaders to decide what to build, then build it. That loop is short, and short loops ship faster.
3. Architecture outlives features. My most leveraged contribution wasn't a pipeline. It was the agentic architecture that became the blueprint for every build after it.
What comes next
Leading the team changes the questions from how to build to which systems to build. In parallel I'm advancing the research: GBNI, MITHRA and Aglier. The overview is in What I'm building in 2026.
Frequently asked questions
How long did it take to go from freelancer to Lead AI Engineer?
Twenty months: from joining Eject Solutions as a freelance AI and data engineer in March 2024 to becoming Lead AI Engineer in November 2025, via a combined Business Analyst and AI Engineer role.
What results led to the promotions?
40% faster model and pipeline deployment, 35% fewer sprint delays, a ₹4 lakh cost reduction on an engagement with KL University, a campaign that produced 3,000+ qualified leads, and an agentic architecture adopted as the production blueprint.
Does business analysis help an AI engineering career?
Yes. Understanding the business decision lets an engineer choose what to build, define success in business terms and communicate results to leadership, which shortens the path from idea to adopted system.
