GBNI explained: state-aware multimodal AI agents for brand communication

Generative Brand Narrative Intelligence, my state-aware multimodal agent framework, explained in plain language, from stateless prompts to agents that remember.

Adithya Reddy · · Updated · 3 min read

Most generative systems treat every request as the first. A prompt goes in, output comes out, and nothing is remembered. That works for one-off tasks. It fails for communication, where the right message depends on what has already happened and how the audience feels.

GBNI (Generative Brand Narrative Intelligence) closes that gap. It is a state-aware multimodal agent framework for emotionally adaptive brand communication, published on SSRN (Abstract ID 6845958). This post is the plain-language version.

Stateless versus state-aware generation

A stateless generator maps each input xtx_t straight to an output yty_t:

yt=g(xt)y_t = g(x_t)

It can match a tone guide, but it can't notice that the mood has shifted, that a message landed badly, or that the conversation has moved on. Each output is locally reasonable and globally incoherent.

A state-aware agent keeps an explicit state sts_t, updates it with every new input, and generates from that state:

st=f(st−1, xt)yt=g(st, xt)s_t = f(s_{t-1},\, x_t) \qquad y_t = g(s_t,\, x_t)

This is general notation for the idea, not the paper's formal model. Everything that makes communication coherent lives in sts_t and the update rule ff.

The three properties of GBNI

State-aware. The agent maintains an explicit picture of the situation and updates it as events occur. Generation is conditioned on that picture, not only the latest request.

Multimodal. Brand communication spans more than text. The framework keeps one narrative coherent across the media a brand uses.

Emotionally adaptive. The goal isn't one "on-brand" voice applied everywhere. It's a voice that remains recognisably the brand while adjusting to the emotional context it speaks into.

GBNI in production: Autonomous Agency Workflows

GBNI's companion project, Autonomous Agency Workflows, puts agents to work on real operations.

GBNI inside a robot

GBNI also runs somewhere less expected. Aglier, my tree-climbing fruit-harvesting robot, carries an onboard GBNI subsystem. Its harvest log records every completed pick, and batch-level records can feed an asynchronous GBNI narrative tier.

The design rule is strict: that tier never controls the real-time harvest cycle. Stateful narrative generation summarises what happened; it never sits in the loop that clamps or cuts. The same boundary applies to any agent near physical systems.

What comes next for GBNI

The SSRN paper is the first step. The second is already out: GBNI v2 (SSRN Abstract ID 7531958, September 2026) extends the Emotionally Adaptive Brand Narrative (EABN) framework to be consistency-governed, causally self-optimising and multi-tenant. I'm expanding it into a 120+ page IEEE paper and a book manuscript, covering the framework in the depth a short paper can't.

Frequently asked questions

What is GBNI?

GBNI (Generative Brand Narrative Intelligence) is a state-aware multimodal AI agent framework for emotionally adaptive brand communication, developed by Adithya Reddy and published on SSRN under Abstract ID 6845958. Its v2 extension (consistency-governed, causally self-optimising and multi-tenant) is on SSRN under Abstract ID 7531958.

What is a state-aware AI agent?

A state-aware agent keeps an explicit record of the situation, updates it with each new input, and generates responses from that state. A stateless generator responds to each request in isolation.

How is GBNI used in practice?

Its companion project, Autonomous Agency Workflows, runs five autonomous agent pipelines in production that recover more than 20 hours of staff time per week. A GBNI subsystem also runs on the Aglier fruit-harvesting robot.

Does GBNI control the Aglier robot?

No. On Aglier, GBNI reads batch records from the harvest log to produce narrative summaries asynchronously. It never controls the real-time climbing, picking or cutting cycle.
